The level of civility in any society can be measured by many indicators; however, showing respect to the elderly tells about a highly sophisticated society which takes into consideration religious, humanitarian, and social concerns. The country which values its seniors is marked by deep loyalty, a sense of responsibility, and good appreciation to the people who established its pillars and shaped its fundamental characteristics. Then, when it is time, they hand over the banner of construction to the younger generation, who will continue the journey enlightened by their forefathers’ beacon, lining with modernity of the period.
That’s why, the value of accumulated experience does lie in the very time that passes over generations, which paves the way for the youth to build their country inspired by their fathers and relying on their rooted wisdom.
Starting from here, our wise leadership has shown, over the past years, remarkable interest in the comfort, happiness, and well-being of Senior Emiratis in appreciation of their dedicated efforts.
Accordingly, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President of the UAE, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai recommended replacing the term “elderly” with “Senior Emiratis”, as he stated: “Senior Emiratis are seniors in experience and seniors in dedication, and family bonds as well as social cohesion cannot be achieved unless when offering a dignified life for our seniors.”
In fact, the term “senior” holds positive implications. It is a symbol of this category’s great significance, our profound regard for them, and our appreciation for their contribution to the rise of our dear Emirates.
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid also emphasized on the crucial impact of seniors in the society, stating: “Our Seniors are the youth which never fades; therefore I urge Emiratis to benefit from their knowledge and to embrace the culture of dedication and sincerity.”
In addition, as a part of the efforts exerted by Dubai government to enhance the quality of life and well-being for seniors, “Esaad” card was issued targeting senior Emiratis, retirees, people of determination, and low-income individuals. This card indicates the deep concern of Dubai government in raising life standards among the Emirati people.
This approach reflects the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid who always seeks to improve Emiratis’ quality of life through programs and initiatives of happiness and positivity.
Another initiative is “Thukher” card to honor seniors of Dubai who are above sixty. This card offers a wide range of services, facilities, and discounts, in recognition of their contribution in founding our society.
Last but not least, a bright future is indeed the extension of a glorious past, and the Senior Emiratis are an essential part of that past. That’s why it is our responsibility to value them and offer them the utmost care and support- following the footsteps of our wise leadership- which ensures a pleasant, calm, and happy life.
